Welcome to Kira Recipes

I'm so glad you're here! This is a place where simple ingredients become delicious meals, and cooking feels like a joy, not a chore. Let's make something tasty together.

A Little About Me

I'm Kira Thompson, a 35-year-old home cook and recipe creator living in Portland, Oregon. I grew up in Seattle in a family where gathering around the dinner table was the best part of every day.

I live with my husband Ryan, our daughter Lily (8), and our energetic border collie Pepper. Our kitchen is small but mighty, and it's where most of our family memories are made.

By day, I work as a marketing coordinator. Cooking is my creative escape — the one time I can slow down, focus, and make something with my hands.

How It All Started

My love for cooking came from my mom, Janet, who taught me that the kitchen is where love lives. Every Sunday, we'd cook together — nothing fancy, just good food made with care. Those moments shaped who I am today.

My grandmother, Nana Mae, was the real cook in the family. Her buttermilk biscuits and chicken pot pie are still legendary. I keep her handwritten recipe cards in a box on my counter as a daily reminder of where my passion began.

I started Kira Recipes in 2023 because I wanted a place to share the meals that bring my family joy. Every recipe here has been tested in my kitchen, taste-tested by Ryan and Lily, and made with ingredients you can actually find.

My Cooking Philosophy

Keep It Simple Fresh Is Best Cook With Love Family First Enjoy The Process

I believe cooking should feel relaxed, not stressful. You don't need fancy equipment or exotic ingredients to make great food. With a little time and the right recipe, anyone can create something delicious.
